Update for members delivering ASDAN qualifications
Autumn 2021 and 2021/2022 awarding
Consultation on arrangements for assessing and awarding VTQs in 2021 to 2022 has concluded and the Department for Education (DfE) and Ofqual have published a joint consultation for the assessment and awarding of Vocational and Technical Qualifications (VTQs) and other general qualifications in 2021/22.
The government’s intention is that teaching, learning and assessment for VTQs and other general qualifications will go ahead in the next academic year. However, it is recognised that due to the significant disruption faced by learners, adaptations implemented by Awarding Organisations in the current academic year may need to continue in 2021/22.
In line with the government policy, qualifications in 2021/22 will be awarded based on evidence from assessments and not Teacher Assessed Grades (TAGs) and the adaptations introduced in 2020 will be available for learners concluding their qualifications in the 2021/22 academic year.
Associated VTQ documents, including changes to the regulatory framework conditions, requirements and guidance are also available from the following links:
- Vocational and technical qualifications contingency regulatory framework, COVID-19 Conditions and Requirements – 2021/2022 GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
- Vocational and technical qualifications contingency regulatory framework, COVID-19 Guidance - 2020/21 - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
ASDAN will continue with the adaptations implemented in 2020/21 and will be reviewing the needs of both the learners and centres in terms whether further adaptations will be required.
ASDAN have implemented adaptations to some qualifications to support with the impact of disruption to teaching, learning and assessment, and any ongoing disruption to or restrictions on the delivery of assessments, through the adaptation of qualifications and assessments.
Adaptation guidance documents 2020–2022 can be downloaded from the Other Information section on the following course pages:
- Award of Personal Effectiveness (AoPE)
- Certificate of Personal Effectiveness (CoPE)
- Personal Progress
- Personal and Social Development
- Wider Key Skills
EQA activity will be completed remotely until Spring 2022 at the earliest. Your allocated External Quality Assurer(s) will be in contact to discuss moderation arrangements for 2021-22 as well as upcoming centre quality assurance reviews in Autumn 2021.
In light of any adaptations that ASDAN will be moderating, this is a reminder that from September 2020 it became a mandatory requirement that centres provide records of internal moderation and a copy of at least one assessment plant for the units in their submission.
